The California gallery contains extensive coverage of south California.  There is additional coverage of central California, including the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Death Valley National Park, and San Luis Obispo County.  Finally, for north California, there is a modest section covering Wine Country.  In early 2011, the California north subcategory link will contain new material covering Gold Country and the White Mountains.

The California gallery has excellent coverage of south California. These southern subcategories constitute about 70% of the gallery.
•  Coastal and beach areas in San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.  The best shots from this subcategory may also be discovered by browsing the Thematic Coastal gallery.
•  Garden and parkland areas of south California, including excellent coverage of Huntington Gardens and Library in San Marino and Descanso Garden in La Cañada Flintridge.
•  What geologists call the transverse mountain ranges of the Los Angeles area.  These are the east-west ranges within 150 miles of Los Angeles: the Santa Monica Mts to the west, the San Gabriel Mts and San Bernardino Mts to the east, and the Santa Ana Mts to the north.  (If you are unfamiliar with the Los Angeles area and are wondering how anything can be “west” of Los Angeles, there is a big dent in the California coast at Los Angeles, so that the coastline from Santa Monica to Ventura runs almost directly west.)
•  The far southeast area of Los Padres National Forest, starting on the east side at Interstate 5 and Frazier Park and going south to Sespe Wilderness Area / Piru Lake and west to the Ojai area.  In general, this is an area that is accessed by traveling north of Santa Clarita and Valencia on the I-5, but the area can also be accessed starting at Ojai at the southwest corner of the area.

The California gallery’s coverage of central California concentrates on certain select regions.
•  Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, and a few other spots scattered around the Sierra Nevada.
•  Pinnacles National Monument, which is isolated 20 miles east of Hwy 101, almost directly east of Big Sur.
•  Death Valley National Park.
•  San Luis Obispo County.

Coming early in 2011 is Red Rock Canyon State Park, along Hwy 14 some 25 miles NEN of Mojave CA, near the El Paso Mountains, and sitting on the far western edge of the Mojave Desert.

The California gallery’s coverage of north California concentrates on Wine Country.  That’s it.  Currently there is no coverage of the northern Sierra Nevada (Mammoth, Yosemite and Lake Tahoe areas) or Redwood Country.

If you have a particular subject in mind, the subcategory links should get you within easy range of your subject.  If still having trouble locating your subject, try the internal search engine. The entire website (particularly anything having to do with photographic identification) has been exhaustively keyworded.
